Talking to the media about Gooch yesterday, Cook said, “He was 'quite' happy. He's quite proud, but I'm sure he'll be throwing at me in the morning - put an innings to bed, and move on."
He further told, “But with Gooch on board, we never have enough. That ethos has really rubbed off on everyone, and we've all bought into it."
Cook believes that his team has arrived at the brink of a tremendous victory which will put it at the peak of the world Test rankings by throwing the Indians away. He tells that the English have been in good form since last couple of years and now they deserve
to be No 1 team.
The batsman stated, “As a side, we've got six double-hundreds since 2010 - which is a tribute to the way we bat. We generally score quite quickly as a side. What we do have is a very good balance.”
The 26-year-old left-handed batsman, who has recently been appointed as the skipper of the team’s ODI wing, has played 70 Test matches so far during the 5-year span of his International career. He has 5540 Test runs with 18 centuries and 26 fifties to his
name.
