Yet, the Poms did not wait for the series to finish as they sealed the No. 1 position on ICC's Test rankings, crushing the Men in Blue by a margin of an innings and 242 runs in the Edgbaston Test.
Anderson revealed that both the skipper and coach took the charger over with an objective to guide the side to the peak.
"One of the first things Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss did when they took over was to get the analysts to come up with a road map to No 1. (Flower) got our analysts to set out a two-to-three-year road map of fixtures, tours and series to become world No 1 and showed us where we`d be if we won each one by a certain score," said Anderson.
Enormously delighted over England reaching the pinnacle of Test standings, Anderson described that achieving the esteemed position is the beginning of a golden era for English cricket.
"It is very satisfying to have achieved that. But now we`ve done it we need to re-assess. We don`t want to settle for being No 1 in the world. We want to dominate Test cricket for as long as possible. This is a great feeling and we want more of it," added the 29-year-old paceman who played a key role in his team’s triumph at Edgbaston, grabbing six wickets in the game.
Meanwhile, the Lancashire-born fast bowler made clear that they Englishmen are not complacent, saying that the side will look to win the final Test and secure the series 4-0.
