James Burrett to meet Brijesh Damani in second round after beating Najm Khan: World Snooker Q School Event 3 round 1
Englishman James Burrett has booked a second-round spot against Indian potter, Brijesh Damani, as he made a tremendous comeback from 2-3 down against Najm Khan in his first-round match on Day 2 of
the World Snooker Q School Event 3 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Burrett couldn’t make his best run at the Q School as he failed to reach the final stages of both the previous events. He faced a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Bash Maqsood as he tried to make his presence
felt in the first event.
The Event 2 was comparatively better for him because he moved to the second round after beating Shahbaaz Adil Khan 4-0 in the first round. However, his luck didn’t favour him as he got defeated by
Michael Wasley in the next round.
Khan’s near half-century break of 49 in the second frame brought him 0-2 up as he took the initial two frames by 51-64 and 4-78. Burrett could see himself crashing out again, but the Englishman wasn't
willing to bow down this time and responded brilliantly.
Burrett pulled level with the Pakistani cueman at 2-2, after taking back-to-back frames with the help of small breaks. However, Burrett lost his focus in the fifth frame resulting in Khan’s frame
victory by 22-81 after a helpful 41-point run, to move 2-3.
Burrett trailed 16-25 in the sixth frame, before a stunning knock of 61 brought him level at 3-3, as he clinched the frame 77-25 to drag the game into the decider frame. The final frame was a totally
one-sided affair, as Burrett didn't let his opponent leave his seat.
He showed a strong potting display and fired a decent half-century clearance of 51 to win the ultimate frame by 90-0. The overall match score was 51-64, 4-78 (Khan 49), 53-45, 69-49, 22-81 (Khan 41),
77-25 (Burrett 61), 90-0 (Burrett 51).
Burrett now has his eyes now on his second match against Indian cueist, Brijesh Damani. The Englishman needs four wins to book his place at the professional tour.
