James Carney and Lauren Hall take lead in first day of USA Cycling Elite Track Championships 2011
The USA Cycling Elite Track Championships opened in Wednesday, September 28 while the event of the Men’s and Women’s omnium start with morning session flying lap and in the afternoon all the cyclists contested the points and elimination races.
After the three events, Pure Energy Cycling-ProAirHFA rider Bobby Lea put in a tremendous performance and took a lead in the group of 19 cyclists and covered the 250 metre flying lap in 13.666 seconds.
Cody O'Reilly (Full Circle Sports) was in good form but failed to hold his pace and grabbed runner-up place with the timing of 13.827 seconds. Charles Huff (Jelly Belly) finished third ahead of James Carney and Kit Karzen.
In the Women’s flying lap, Hanan Alves-Hyde (RIDECLEAN/RideClean p/b PatentIt.com) also gained a lead from the group of ten riders and set the fastest time of 15.340 seconds. Jennifer Triplett (Lake Washington Velo) was in second place with 15.488 seconds
ahead of Colleen Hayduk.
In the 30 kilometres of the point race, Cody O'Reilly (Full Circle Sports) showed great ability in the midpoint of the race and finally collected 32 points ahead of Daniel Holt (Team Type 1- Development) with 31 points. Flying lap winner Bobby Lea again
showed powerful skills and took the third spot with 18 points.
In the Women’s session of the 20 kilometres, Colavita-Forno D'Asolo’s Lauren Hall collected 19 points in the seven of the eight sprints while Elizabeth Newell (Bell Lap Racing-Team Bell Lap) was in second spot with 18. Jennifer Triplett (Lake Washington
Velo) secured third place.
Elimination Race is the last challenge of the day and James Carney (RideClean p/b PatentIt.com) showed some powerful abilities to achieve first place. In the final metres, he easily beat the other cyclists while the two riders Bobby Lea and Kit Karzen were
stuck in the last corner and Carney launched an attack to cross the line. Daniel Holt was in third place ahead of Charles Huff.
Pursuit and Scratch Race will take place on the second day and the Men will cover the distance of 1000 metres in both events and Women cover 500 TT metres.
