James Cerretani/ Philipp Marx labour to the quarters in Men’s Doubles – Wimbledon Championships 2011
American German duo of James Cerretani and Philipp Marx bounced from a set down to win against Colombians, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah Maksoud in a four set thriller at Men’s Doubles – Wimbledon Championships 2011, a
Grand Slam event held on the grass courts in London, England. They made an epic comeback to register a 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-4 victory to reach the last eight on Tuesday.
Cerretani and Marx were a set down against Colombian tandem when they perfected their co-ordination to reel off remaining sets. As a result, they secured a final eight spot at this major and most precious event of the year.
Cabal and Farah, who stunned fourth seeded Indo Pak Express consisting of Bopanna and Qureshi in their opening round match, kept their same spirit in the first set. They pinged the balls expertly onto the lines and smoothly clinched
the opener with a 6-3 win through break of serve.
Both pairs played their best tennis in the second set as they exchanged breaks and held tightly onto their respective serves to take the set to a tie-breaker. Cerretani and Marx, however, dominated in it to seal the equaliser with
a 7-6(2) score line.
The American German pair raised their level of game in the third set. They improved co-ordination among themselves to earn the coveted break. The pair then held on to their serves to bag the set with a 6-4 win and to take the lead
in this best of five set match.
Cerretani and Marx kept momentum rolling into the final set as they earned penned good stats to them and edged their rivals with a break of serve to eventually clinch the set with a 6-4 score line again.
Overall, the American German tandem had great co-ordination among themselves and produced a much better first serve share. Along with this, the pair registered a higher winning percentage on it and rolled the balls expertly on
the lines.
The pair had an awesome run of form in this event. They trashed Thai lucky losers, Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana with a breadstick in their opening round match and stunned sixteenth seeds, Italian Daniele Bracciali
and Czech Frantisek Cermak in trouble some four sets to reach this spot.
Cerretani and Marx will next face the winner of the match between Australian Mexican pair of Carsten Ball and Santiago Gonzalez and sixth seeds, French Michael Llodra and Serb Nenad Zimonjic.
