James DeClerck impresses in Men’s 200yard IM – High School State Championships, Michigan
James DeClerck of Houghton High School impressed the audience in Men’s 200yard Individual Medley (IM) final at the Michigan Upper Peninsula High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Marie, Michigan on Tuesday, February 21.
The 11-year-old served notice of his talent by producing a wonderful 2 minutes and 12.64 seconds effort for the crown of the event. With his immaculate effort, he remained nearly three seconds ahead of Marquette High School-MI’s Nathan Rotundo, who followed
him on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 15.38 seconds.
The 9-year-old Rotundo remained almost two seconds faster from DeClerck’s teammate, Alex Monette, who cemented his third best spot on the victory stand by posting a nice time of 2 minutes and 17.21 seconds.
In the meantime, the spectators witnessed ruthless aggression of Houghton High School’s Rebecca Jaszczak, who upset her challengers in the Women’s 50yard freestyle. The 11-year-old Jaszczak stayed untouchable throughout the race and stepped on the medal
rostrum for gold medal with an astonishing effort of 25.80 seconds.
She was trailed by Sarah Tresedder of Grimn Co-Op, who was 0.35 seconds behind her former finisher and reported a time of 26.15 seconds for second position. The silver medallist was traced by Kelsey Justin of Sault Area High School-MI, who was considerably
slower from her preceding swimmer and submitted an effort of 27.80 seconds for bronze medal.
After a while, Sault Area High School-MI’s Colin MacQuarrie dominated the similar event in Men’s category. The 18-year-old MacQuarrie smothered all efforts of his challengers and surfaced on the concluding wall with a timing of 20.85 seconds.
He was followed by Josh Johnson of Kingsford High School-MI, who stayed 1.95 seconds apart and ended his race with a timing of 22.80 seconds. MacQuarrie’s team-member, Kyle Lester occupied third fastest spot of the race as he ended his swim in a time of
23.19 seconds.
In addition, the session came to an end after the completion of all scheduled events whereas the podium finishers collected their awards and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
