James DeGale backs trainer Jim McDonnell after losing out to George Groves – Boxing news
Former Olympic gold medallist and British super middleweight champion James DeGale, who recently lost his battle for the Lonsdale belt against the 23-year-old George Groves via points on May 21, 2011, is still standing at the back of his trainer Jim McDonnell.
James ‘The Chunky’ DeGale was an unbeaten boxer with 10 wins including 8 by the way of a knockout before he lost his belt to Groves in London. Therefore many suggested him to change his coach but DeGale has turned down everyone by saying he has no such plans.
DeGale admitted he has read a lot of things on the internet and he knows people are asking him to change his trainer but on the same note he said McDonnell is a great coach and a great friend so he is not going to change him.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “I read a lot of things on the Internet, in the papers, saying Ive got to move to America, Ive got to change my trainer. After the fight everything's still a bit sore and you think about all different kinds of
things, but when you sit down and talk to your family your promoter and I don't need to fix it. Jim's a great coach, we've got a great friendship, so why change?”
The Nottingham’s warrior, DeGale, stated it was not McDonnell fault but rather his own. He said he maybe he was too disrespectful and harsh to George.
“Ive got myself to blame, maybe I was too disrespectful, maybe a bit too harsh, maybe a bit too raw,” he said.
DeGale believes he has the talent and will to overcome his loss in September 2011 when he is going to make a comeback once again. He claimed no one doubts his talent, as they know he always tries his best and goes all the way.
He said, “Everyone knows how talented I am, I think people in boxing and people who watch me know I'm going all the way, said DeGale.”
