James DeGale says world title dream not impossible to achieve – Boxing news
British amateur boxer and Olympic gold medallist James DeGale believes that it is not an uphill task to convert his world title dream into reality.
It is still open to him regardless of the fact that George Groves agrees to a re-match or not.
James ‘Chunky’ DeGale faced the first ever defeat to his progressing career by losing a controversial majority-decision fight against George ‘The Saint’ Groves last Saturday at the O2 Arena in London. He lost his British Super-middleweight Title in the process
which he won by scoring a technical knockout decision over Paul Smith in December 2010.
The George vs. DeGale 12-round bout was stopped after 10 rounds. It was then up to the judges to decide the winner of the fight. Although one judge gave the decision in DeGale’s favour but the other two judges’ scorecards were in Groves’ favour. Following
the majority decision, Groves’ hand was raised as the new champion.
However, DeGale’s fans are not happy with the decision and have already filed an application with the officials to re-arrange a match between them. Now it is up to Groves whether he agrees to fight DeGale again or not.
After losing the bout, DeGale spoke to the media and said, “To me it feels like I didn't lose properly. It feels like he's nicked the title off me.”
DeGale said that it is not difficult for him to have a re-match. He said he does not know what will happen but if he wants something, it is his dream straightaway. He further added that Groves should not be so excited to take that honour as he just tried
to score it.
DeGale added, “I'm going to move on to bigger and better things, with or without him.”
Grove on the other hand was surprised to hear about such type of comments and laughed them off.
Let’s see whether DeGale gets a re-match with Groves or not. In case he does get it, he will be more than eager to beat him and settle the score.
