James DeGale trains on streets before taking on George Groves – Boxing News
James DeGale has gone out on the streets ahead of his fight against George Groves, to be held at London’s O2 Arena, next Saturday, May 21.
DeGale, who is going to defend his British and Commonwealth super-middleweight title, has been drawing crowds with Essex home trainer, Jim McDonnell, on the streets for the massive fight, which is sure to attract a huge number of viewers.
Though the north Londoner, DeGale, finished his sparring session on Thursday, he continued doing light trainings on the streets around McDonnell’s home. His outdoor sessions have attracted a lot of people, as they see Chunky, DeGale, in action.
McDonnell said, “A couple of nights this week James has completed his training in the fresh air outside my house. He’s worked all day in the gym then in the evening we’ve done some pad work out in the road. People have been hanging out of the windows trying
to see what we’re doing.”
His trainer also claimed that the 25-year-old boxer is going to win the fight pretty easily. He told the media that Groves is only going into the ring to take a pay-day, but it is going to be his last pay-day, as he believes DeGale fighter can end his opponent’s
career.
McDonnell added, “It’s their chance to watch a world class talent up close and I tell them to remember what they are seeing because James is going to go on and become one of the best fighters in the world. He’s really popular down here in Essex and everyone
is talking about the fight with Groves on May 21.”
He reckons Groves is going to be forgotten after he loses to his challenger. He stated in one of his interviews that nobody is thinking of Groves, as these days everyone is talking about David ‘the Hayemaker’ Haye and Wladimir Klitschko, who are going to
fight one-on-one on July 2.
The clash is being termed as one of the biggest bouts in the British history which will be fought at the Imtech Arena, Hamburg.
