James Driscoll, Chris Tidland and Troy Matteson share lead in Puerto Rico Open of PGA Tour
Second round of the Puerto Rico Open of PGA Tour event came to a conclusion on 11 March, 2011. The overnight leader James Driscoll was joined by Chris Tidland and Troy Matteson; they all had the similar scores of ten-under par and share the lead on the top
of the leader board.
It was the American Tidland who carded a fantastic second round of nine-under par, 63. His card clearly shows his commendable hitting and smooth putting. There were nine birdies on his score card and had no bogey during his round. The 38-year old has been
playing on the Nationwide Tour and only has two wins. Chris was in spectacular form during the second round as everything was going in the right direction for him. Nothing went wrong for the seasoned campaigner, whether it be the approach shots to the green
or his putting,
The veteran was overwhelmed with his round and was content to lead the championship. After playing the second round, he said, "Everything, obviously, went pretty well. I got off to a nice start. I hit a 6-iron on the second hole, No. 11. I hit it to a foot,
and that kind of started me off. I made some nice putts for par and then I just kept hitting some fairways and some greens.”
Experienced Matteson carded a steady round of five-under par, 67 on the second day. He also has two PGA Tour victories under his belt and is looking for his third. There were six birdies and a lone bogey marked on his card. The only bogey came on the par-4,
10th where his approach shot missed the green and he had to make a bogey. The 31-year is confident of continuing his form in the next two days to capture the winner’s cheque.
Driscoll who was the first round leader had a rather moderate round of one-under par, 71. There were three birdies and a disastrous double bogey on his card. He was going smoothly through the first fourteen holes. It was the long par-5, 15th which
troubled him a lot. His tee shot landed in heavy rough and thereon failed to even make a par. The joint leader was rather disappointed for the only blemish on his card and hoping to continue his dominance in the next two days also.
There is a three way tie on the leader board for the fourth spot. Stephen Ames, George McNeill and Hunter Haas all have two round scores of nine-under par and have a deficit of just a single stroke over the leaders.
The most experienced player on the field Angel Cabrera of Argentina is had a rather modest round of one-under par, 71 on the second day and is placed three shots behind the leaders. He started off superbly and was two under in the fix six holes. From thereon,
Cabrera failed to capture the opportunity which came his way.
Stewart Cink who is the highest ranked player is also three behind the leader. Cink had improved his score on the second day and had a round of four-under par, 68. He has a two day aggregate score of seven-under par, 137.
The course is in excellent condition and the greens are suiting many players. Third day of this championship will start today and some fireworks are expected from all the top players.
