James Feigen earns Men’s 100yard freestyle gold: Day three – NCAA Division 1 Championship Meet
James Feigen of Texas earned gold medal of the Men’s 100yard freestyle on final day of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Championship Meet at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, March 24.
The Texas based Feigen showed no mercy to his opponents and destroyed their hopes for the crown of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 41.95 seconds. He stayed 0.39 seconds ahead of Auburn’s Marcelo Chierighini, who proved his eligibility for second position by ending his swim in a time of 42.34 seconds.
Vladimir Morozov of Southern California remained 0.10 seconds slower from his former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end by hitting the wall with the timing of 42.44 seconds.
In the meantime, Carlos Almeida of Louisville snatched gold medal of the Men’s 200yard breaststroke by completing his swim in a time of 1 minute and 51.88 seconds. He was followed by Trevor Hoyt of California, who stayed just 0.02 seconds slower from the gold medallist and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 51.90 seconds.
Kevin Cordes of Arizona snared bronze medal of the discipline as he ended his distant breaststroke swim with an effort of 1 minute and 51.97 seconds.
Next was the Men’s 200yard Butterfly, where Will Hamilton of California accomplished gold medal of the discipline by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 40.94 seconds. He was trailed by his teammate, Thomas Shields, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower from overpowering efforts of Hamilton and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 41.07 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Marcin Cieslak of Florida, who suffered a deficit of 0.29 seconds from Shields and appeared on the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 41.36 seconds. Bobby Bollier of Stanford occupied fourth position of the butterfly discipline as he clocked a time of 1 minute and 42.45 seconds.
The crowd appreciated immaculate struggles of all participants in their respective disciplines whereas the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum after the session.
