James Hahn and Roberto Castro share the halfway lead at the Humana Challenge
James Hahn of the United States fired a five-under par 67, in the second round of the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation, to retain the share of the lead, on Friday, January 18, 2013.
The tournament is being played at the PGA West’s Arnold Palmer Private Course and the La Quinta Country Club, featuring a strong line-up gathered from different parts of the world.
Humana Challenge is known for attracting a strong field each year. This year too, the tournament has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of world number one Rory McIlroy and the 14-time major champion Tiger Woods.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Hahn has been consistent and has recorded a total of 13 birdies and an eagle, against a lone bogey in two rounds.
The opening round witnessed him making a brilliant start, as he drained nine birdie putts, to share the lead with Roberto Castro.
In the second round, he kept the momentum going and did not anyone to surpass him on the leaderboard. He got off to a flying start, as he recorded two birdies and an eagle putt on the front nine of the course.
"Any time you have back-to-back par 5s that are reachable, it's definitely something to look forward to," said Hahn about the fifth and the sixth hole. "Especially if the round's not going well”.
He then added another two shots to his scorecard, by recording birdies on the 11th and the 13th hole, to take the sole lead, midway through the second round. However, the only blemish of the day, coming on the 16th hole, forced him to post a 14-under par
halfway score.
In the meantime, Castro also took the sole lead after birdying the sixth hole, his 15th. However, he then lost two shots on the last three holes that he played, to join Hahn once again on the leaderboard.
"A couple slipped away there at the end, but yesterday I made a 50-footer on the last," Castro said. "Today, I felt like I hit a good putt and three-putted. So, that's stuff over 72 holes that's going to even out”.
