James Harden once again expresses desire to sign a extension with Oklahoma City Thunder – NBA News
It seems like James Harden wants to come back to the Oklahoma City Thunder badly and has been expressing his desire for a contract extension wherever he goes.
Harden is one of the most important players in the Thunder roster, and a big reason why the team reached the NBA Finals this past season. The guard was awarded the 6th man of the year award last season, and is now looking
forward to signing a contract extension with the Thunder.
“I love the Thunder, I’m excited to be here. I think we’ve definitely become a brotherhood, so I definitely want to be here in Oklahoma,” said Harden recently.
Harden will become a free agent next summer, which means the Thunder have till October 31st to sign him to a contract extension of four years. The Thunder recently finalized an extension deal with forward Serge Ibaka,
which will see him play through the 2016 season alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
Harden is the only player out of the core of the team who does not have an extended contract, and the Thunder front office have expressed their desire to sign him and keep the team together for the foreseeable future, so that they
have a chance of winning multiple NBA championships.
However, the only question that remains to be sorted out is the price of the contract. The Thunder are already on the books for three big contracts, and will definitely be going into luxury tax if they give Harden the contract
that he deserves. The Thunder ownership has said before that they do not mind going into luxury tax to keep this team together, as it has been made after a lot of hard work and now stands a real chance of winning NBA championships.
Harden can sign a huge contract with any other team in the NBA if he decides to become a free agent next summer, as he possesses all the skills to take the starting guard role of any team. However, he wants to stay with the Thunder
and the team wants him as well. The only thing left is for the two parties to reach an agreement over the details of contract.
