James Horwill makes comeback to Wallabies after long absence - Rugby Union news
James Horwill, who will make his comeback into the Wallabies squad after an absence of almost 20 months, is exited to wear the golden jersey during the Tri-Nations Cup 2011.
The Wallabies skipper had been struggling with various injuries and missed a number of International games for his national side. Horwill has not played an International game since a test against Wales in 2009.
However, the veteran lock has been named in the Australian squad for the upcoming Tri-Nations Cup, kicking off on July 23. Wallabies will take on the Springboks side in the inaugurating clash of the event, in Sydney.
James Horwill made his International debut in 2007 against Fiji but was left out from the Rugby World Cup 2007 squad. Horwill did not give up his efforts after being ignored by the selectors and his hard work paid off in 2008. He was recalled into Wallabies
team in 2008 and played nine International games for his team.
Recently he became the first Queensland Reds skipper to lead his side to the maiden title of Super Rugby. The Reds got past the New Zealander derby Crusaders by 18-13 in the final of Super Rugby championship 2011, on July 9.
Talking to the media on July 20, the Reds skipper and Wallabies lock, James Horwill said that he is very excited to get back into the Australian side. He said that, “It's been about 20 months since my last test and I'm really excited to get back in the gold
jersey. So we've got things we need to work on. There's not big changes we need to make just little things we need to do better to get the result we want.”
James Horwill has also come out to be the best candidate to the lead Australian side in the Tri-Nations Cup 2011, as Rocky Elsom was failed to handle the pressure of the game against Samoa. Australia lost their season opener test against Samoa on July 17,
by 32-23.
However, Horwill cleared his stance and said that he is looking for a better start at the moment. He further said that, “That's something that you come to when the time's right," he said. Everyone wants to play for the Wallabies and... it's obviously a tremendous
honour to captain your country.”
Wallabies will take on the Springboks in the opening match of Tri-Nations on July 23, in Sydney.
