James Horwill re-signs with Reds until 2013 – Rugby news
With news of the players, switching their Rugby Clubs has become a sort of routine particularly when we talk about the star rugby players.
Other Clubs and Unions were worried about the effect of such huge offers on players from their Clubs and Countries.
Australian Rugby would have taken a respite and confidence as the Queensland Reds Captain James Horwill has resigned with them. The 25-year-old James Horwill has been an inspirational leader for the Reds as he and Reds coach Ewen McKenzie has delivered some
exceptional performances in the Super Rugby Championship. James Horwill has signed two-year contract with the Reds and will remain with them until the end of the 2013 season.
Reds, who managed to achieve their first-ever consecutive six wins record during the Weekends as they beat the Bulls at Suncorp, were overjoyed with the James extension of the Tenure with the Reds.
James Horwill started his career for Reds in 2006 as he took the field against Reds Australian Conference archrivals Waratahs. Nick named Big Kev, James Horwill has so far played 58 games for the Queensland Reds and so far has been his only professional/senior
rugby club.
Commenting on his decision to stay at Reds he said, “I didn't want to play anywhere else and I didn't look anywhere else. This is where I want to play my footy and I'm thrilled everything has now been sorted.”
Wallaby and Reds Lock made his debut for Australia in 2007 against the Fiji. He has so far played in 24 matches for Australia. Later this year he will feature in his first Rugby World cup.
Welcoming James Horwill extension in contract with the Queensland Reds, Jim Carmichael Queensland Rugby CEO has praised his both on field and off field attitude.
He said, “James is an outstanding young man and we were determined to retain him because of his attitude, his ability and his dedication to this State. We recognise that the team looks to him for leadership and direction and we have moved to harness that
for the betterment of the Code.”
James Horwill has also been given the additional role of Players Representative on the Queensland Rugby Union Board.
Talking about the Reds Captain, Reds Coach Ewen McKenzie said, “James is critical to what we are trying to achieve here. He not only motivates the team through his words but also through his actions. That was clear again on Saturday against the Bulls. He's
a class act.”
James Horwill has done a fine job in Super XV as he had successfully lead the team to the top position of the combined table and has also sustained the position so far.
