James Key: Minor updates to diffuser, rear brake duct expected for German Grand Prix – Formula 1
Sauber technical director James Key has stated that after showing some good speeds in the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season, his team will bring some minor updates to diffuser and rear brake duct for the upcoming German Grand Prix.
Key added that the German circuit is a bit slow in the first sector and fast in the second sector so the engineers and drivers will have to work hard on the car especially in the qualifiers.
He said, “It's going to be an interesting weekend. After our good performance in Silverstone, we look forward to carrying that momentum forward. This is a challenge for the engineers and drivers to try and get it right particularly in qualifying.”
Talking about the Pirelli tyres, Key stated that soft and medium compounds are to be used in Germany out of which soft cope up well with Sauber’s C30 but the medium compound gives some problems, as seen in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Key commented, “The tyre compounds will be medium and soft. We know the medium tyres were a little tricky in Canada. The softs should be okay. The car will continue with the updates we brought to Silverstone. We will have a further small update on the diffuser
and the rear brake ducts.”
Further talking about the circuit, Key stated that the Nurburgring features some slow pace corners in the opening sector which are good for overtaking and then the final sector is somewhat fast.
The Silverstone Grand Prix was a good show of Sauber’s pace as Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez showed some good speed on the wet track as well as dry. However, Kobayashi had to pull out from the race after an oil leak but Perez brought the car home in 8th
place.
The German Grand Prix will be contested on July 24, 2011 with off throttle blown diffuser allowed by the International Automobile Federation. (FIA) It will be interesting to see where Sauber end the race with their updates.
