James Key: Sauber C30 should suit Spa-Francorchamps – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s James Key has recently stated that the team’s car C30 is going to suit the legendary Belgian track Spa-Francorchamps where the 2011 Belgian Grand Prix is expected to take place on August 28, 2011.
Sauber have been one of the most consistent and reliable teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season as a result of which they are currently in 6th place in the constructors’ standings. The team is still hoping to take some advantage
and score even better results at the upcoming races with the help of some upgrades as well.
“We're looking forward to getting into the next part of the season and going to Spa, which requires a medium-to-low downforce level. To-date, it will be the lowest downforce level the teams have run, but a lot will depend on the weather conditions, because
they are very unpredictable. As always at Spa, we have to monitor the weather closely over the weekend,” said Key.
Other than that, he stated that the team is going to introduce some rear and front wing upgrades to the new car and since Spa is an ‘interesting’ and technical track, it is going to be a great challenge for the team’s engineers as well.
“The circuit itself is very popular with the drivers, and a great place to engineer a car. The track is primarily high-speed with long straights and well-known corners; this should suit our car reasonably well,” he added.
He added that the tyres are also going to play a huge role in the upcoming race as the teams will be using the soft and medium compound tyres similar to the setup of Silverstone. In order to evaluate the full potential of the medium tyres, the teams will
have to run some tests though.
The teams are quite comfortable with the soft tyres though and since they offer some pretty good speed, the soft tyres will play a major role in the qualifying at the Belgian Grand Prix.
With just 8 races left the 2011 Formula 1 season is becoming even more interesting and each of the remaining races is going to be even more important than the previous one.
