James Key: Sauber planning new upgrades for upcoming Valencia Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber team director James Key has informed the media that they are planning to introduce some new upgrades in their C30 car for the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix.
Key also mentioned that he is hopeful the new parts including a new front wing which will give them better results in the European race weekend.
The team was disappointed with the seventh place finish of their driver Kamui Kobayashi in the recently held Canadian Grand Prix.
Sauber driver Kobayashi had a very strong start in the Montreal race weekend. The team admitted that the Japanese did a great job before the long red flag due to the heavy rain. He restarted his race from the second place on the starting grid. However, due
to lack of his car’s pace, he could not retain his position until the end of the race and ended up on the seventh spot.
The team was unhappy with their driver’s Canadian race progress, as they were expecting a race victory from him when he restarted his race from the front row.
After a disappointing race performance of Kobayashi in Montreal, the team decided to introduce some new updates in their cars for improving the results of the team. Sauber are sure that the new front wing and some other new parts will give them better results
in the upcoming race weekend, as they believe a new programme always brings some changes in the car’s running.
The team director said, “We hope our performance will be back on the level we had before Canada, where we felt we didn't perform as we wanted to in dry conditions. Also in the meantime we've been working hard on the balance of the car to try to ensure we
can have a better level of performance in Valencia.”
He discussed the upcoming Valencia GP and mentioned, “There will be an unknown in Valencia, because we will have a new Pirelli medium tyre compound which we ran in Canada. However, that was on a different track and most probably different track conditions
with regard to temperature.”
Sauber will take part in the European GP with several new upgrades. The eighth round of the 2011 season will take place on June 26, 2011 in Valencia.
