James Key hopeful of 6th position for Sauber at 2011 Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari technical director James Key is confident that with the installation of the upgraded package at Suzuka, the team has good chances of climbing up the constructors’ standings to re-gain the 6th position which they lost
to Force India-Mercedes.
The Hinwil-based outfit feels they are in a strong position at the moment, and with more upgrades in the pipeline for future races, the team is hopeful of doing well in the remainder of the races.
Sauber came out of the recently held Japanese Grand Prix with mixed feelings. The Japanese home-star Kamui Kobayashi started off the race in the 7th place but could not manage to keep his pace and ended up only in the 13th place.
His teammate Sergio Perez, on the other hand, started off from much below on the grid and fought his way through to finish the race at 8th position.
The team had installed a revamped aero package ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, and considers this as a major contributor to their improved performance at the race. The team is highly encouraged and motivated to see the results and expect a lot
more improvement coming in the near future.
Key speaking to Autosport.com said, “It's such a wide-ranging thing, we still haven't really got the car 100 per cent with it yet, the balance is still not there and so on.”
He further added, “You never know when you come to a track with new bits, but it all looks as we expect. I think there will be a bit more to come from it, there will be a few new items to come, following on from this.”
Key is anticipating a tough challenge from its potential rivals, Force India, Toro Rosso and Renault and looks forward to a fierce on-track battle with them.
The team currently sits at 7th position on the constructors’ standings with a total of 40 points, giving Force India-Mercedes an 8-point lead.
Let’s see how the team performs at the 2011 Korean Grand Prix, which starts Friday, October 14, with the first free practice session where all the teams get to run their cars on the track and test their upgrades. The race day is set to take place on Sunday,
October 16, 2011.
