James Key says Sauber were honest about their pace – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Sauber technical director James Key has recently updated the media about their performance over the test sessions.
He has mentioned that the team was honest about their testing and that they were not running with high fuel loads until the final Barcelona test.
The team showed strong performance at the start of the session, similar to 2010 but they failed to deliver an inspiring run and did not get their desired results.
Key admitted ahead of running with small amounts of fuel that their pace was ‘genuine’ during the testing.
He said, “Performance is very difficult to judge because performance ultimately is relative to the competition, I think we have been quite honest with the way we have been testing, and ran lower fuel levels only on the last two days in Barcelona, which gave
us a little bit more of an idea of where the car is.”
He further added that they are satisfied for the progress they have made over the winter sessions because they wanted to improve their 2010 car in some specific areas.
Key informed the media that the team has significant upgrade plans, which they will introduce in the initial races of the season.
He went on to say, “The good news is the fairly big update we took to the second Barcelona test for the start of the season seems to have worked the way we hoped it would. The important thing now is we continue to push and bring further updates as soon as
we can. We have some big updates planned and will bring several new parts to the second race.”
With regards to Sauber’s testing progress, both team drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez tried their best to gather top points for the team in the timesheets. As they drove in the new C30 car, they learnt all the new installed features of this upgrade
package.
Sauber are looking forward to a successful 2011 season. However, the team drivers are also ready for their first run in the Australian Grand Prix which will begin on March 27, 2011 in Melbourne.
