James Kingston shoots 68 in the second round of the Spanish Open
James Kingston played surprisingly well in the second round of the Spanish Open, sharing the 10th position with three other professionals.
The 46-year-old South African golfer shot a 4-under 68 on Friday and reached the top-10 position of the leaderboard.
He faced tough challenging conditions in the first round, as the day was unfavourable for most of the contenders. The winds were blowing across the course and wet grass was causing the ball to move slow.
The scoring average on Thursday was also low and only Kingston managed to score three birdies. However, he finished the round 2-over par, as he carded five unimpressive bogeys till the end of the day.
He admitted that he was unable to score well in the first round. He further said that he will be boosting his performance in the second round.
Kingston teed off early in the morning on Friday. He displayed a near-static game and made six consecutive pars from the first hole to the sixth.
Then he carded his first bogey on the 7th hole and ended the front nine holes by making two consecutive birdies.
He continued his stunning performance on the back nine holes and carded three birdies and no bogey.
He added a -4 to the leaderboard scores, as he recorded an overall 2-under 142. He is only three strokes behind from the leader, Gregory Bourdy.
Bourdy, who belongs to France, played extremely well in the second round. He made eight massive birdies and only two bogeys throughout the day and is leading by a one-stroke margin. He scored a 6-under 66 on Friday.
"I am very happy with how I have handled these two days because this has been two of the toughest days we've had on the tour this year," Bourdy said.
The Spanish Jorge Campillo, Italian Matteo Manassero, English Robert Rock and Simon Dyson are sharing the second leaderboard position.
They are making the competition tougher, as they scored a 4-under 140 seach and only one-stroke behind the leading position.
Kingston has enough capabilities to score well from the third round. He has ample chances to be among the top-5 players. Analysts said that all he needs to do is make more birdies and avoid recording bogeys.
