James Magnussen and Eamon Sullivan content with their efforts – Swimming News
Australian freestyle specialists, James Magnussen and Eamon Sullivan have expressed contentment over their fabulous sprints in the 50m discipline at the 2012 Energy Australia Swimming Championships. The meet took place at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide.
The 20-year-old Magnussen, who is the world champion of the 100m freestyle, sprinted his way towards the finishing end, gunning for the gold medal and devastated his challengers with a 21.74 seconds effort.
Magnussen won three gold medals in the events of 100m freestyle, 4*100m freestyle and 4*100m medley relay at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships. His scintillating form at the Australian nationals is quit alarming for his rivals, as he has not showed any signs of slowing down.
After winning the race, Magnussen, who has already booked his spot in the 100m freestyle with a 47.10 seconds effort, said, “I think that time is actually thereabouts for a medal internationally. We won't focus on it directly. But I'll certainly be confident going into that event in London. I'm really surprised ... I'm not exactly sure where the speed is coming from, but I'm glad to have it.”
On the other hand, former Australian champion, Sullivan also expressed happiness after his commendable speed in the 50m discipline, where he finished second with the timing of 21.92 seconds.
Previously, the 26-year-old Sullivan ensured his place in the 4*100m freestyle relay, but his marvellous sprint in the 50m discipline allowed him to seize an individual spot at the London Games.
“The last three years, the only thing that has got me through all those injuries and all the setbacks and time out of the water and the disappointing results is the thought of London,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan was extremely pleased after securing his individual qualification at the London Games while the duo of former and current champion is hot favourite for making a splash at the upcoming events.
In addition, James Roberts, who finished second in the 100m freestyle with the timing of 47.63 seconds, has also increased the chances of Australian team to win gold medal at the forthcoming mega stage of sports.
