James Magnussen overwhelms Nathan Adrian in Men’s 100m freestyle semi-finals –London Olympic Games
Australian great freestyle swimmer, James Magnussen overwhelmed Nathan Adrian in the semi-finals of Men’s 100m freestyle on day four of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, July 31.
Adrian qualified into the semi-finals as top fastest swimmer but was unable to match Magnussen’s effort in the second round of the race.
With his astounding pace, Magnussen devastated hopes of his opponents as he went full rampant in the 100m discipline and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 47.63 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was chased by Adrian, who stayed 0.34 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade for second position by clocking a time of 47.97 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Hanser Garcia of Cuba, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 48.04 seconds for third position.
Garcia was followed by Sebastiaan Verschuren of Netherlands, who suffered a loss of 0.09 seconds from his former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 48.13 seconds for fourth place.
Subsequently, the Dutch swimmer was chased by world record holder, Cesar Cielo of Brazil, who stayed 0.04 seconds slower from him and made his way to the final round by touching the wall with the timing of 48.17 seconds as fifth fastest swimmer.
The Brazilian swimmer was chased by Brent Hayden of Canada, who remained 0.04 seconds apart and qualified into the final round as sixth best finisher by submitting a time of 48.21 seconds.
Hayden was traced by Yannick Agnel of France, who remained just 0.02 seconds apart and finished his swim in a time of 48.23 seconds for seventh position.
Similarly, Agnel enjoyed an advantage of 0.15 seconds over Nikita Lobintsev of Russian Federation, who occupied eighth qualifying spot of the race by submitting an effort of 48.38 seconds.
Magnussen’s alarming pace in the semi-finals has aroused expectations of his fans, as once again, he became the top contender for gold medal. Furthermore, the Australian added that he would try whatever it takes to secure gold finish.
