James McDonald's pitching helps Pittsburgh Pirates beat San Francisco Giants, 2-0: MLB Update
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ starting pitcher, James McDonald did a splendid job with the ball, as he tossed six shutout innings to clinch a 2-0 series triumph for the Club over the league's rival San Francisco Giants at the PNC Park in
Pittsburgh on Wednesday April 27.
McDonald aligned the best tricks to knock down an ERA and it definitely was a splendid job, according to the Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle. No doubt, McDonald deserved this appreciation, because he achieved the momentum at the time
when the Pirates’ batters were not at their best. In the second inning, Chris Snyder scored a lead off run for the Pirates and the Club required strong offence to hold the opposition to no-hit.
McDonald performed as per the expectations of the skipper and held the Giants scoreless in his six-inning spell. He just gave four hits, four walks and managed three strikeouts. It was the first win for the McDonald in this season
and it made him excited that was evident in his words, "It feels like I got a monkey off my back with the first win. I feel a little less stress now."
The Pirates' relievers, Mike Crotta, Joe Beimel and Chris Resop travelled the road prepared by McDonald and did not give any run in their short spells. The Joel Hanrahan struck again and earned his seventh win with 2.08 ERA in this
season.
The Giants' starter, Madison Bumgarner, went slightly wrong and lost for the fourth time. Bumgarner pitched six strong innings, but was unfortunate to toss one shaky pitch in the second. However, he made seven strikeouts, walked just
one and received words of praise from the manager.
The Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy was satisfied with the performance Bumgarner displayed with ball. Bochy expressed his opinion in a highly appreciated way by saying, "I thought Madison did a great job," San Francisco manager Bruce
Bochy said. "He kept his poise and stayed away from the crooked number that has killed him. It is tough to not get runs for him. It'd be big to get him his first win."
Bochy also praised the reliever, Dan Runzler, who consumed game’s second run in seventh inning to the Pirates’ slugger, Jose Tabata. Runzler could not be considered wrong until he gave run, as he had tossed seven strike pitches. The
Closer, Guillermo Mota, pitched a perfect one inning and struck out three batters, but could not earn first win of season.
Both the Clubs will meet again for do or die third game of the series at the same venue on Thursday April 28. The pirates seemed not to take any chance, and therefore the Club has scheduled their winning pitcher, Jeff Karstens to
take on Giants’ Vogelsong, who will make his first start.
