James O’Connor inspired to give his best during British tour - Rugby News
Wallabies’ young and talented wing, James O’Connor, is geared up to show the est of his abilities during their forthcoming tour of Great Britain. Australia will play two matches in the upcoming journey to English soil with the opening clash against Barbarians
on November 26, at Twickenham. O’Connor told journalists on Thursday, November 17, that he was ready to take his chances against Barbarians and Wales. Wallabies will take on Wales in their last leg of the tour on December 3.
Wallabies announced their 30-member squad for this particular tour earlier on November 6 and featured a few changes in their regular line ups due to injury problems. Their seasoned fly-half Quade Cooper along with Pat McCabe have been ruled out from the
side as they were suffering from various causalities since Rugby World Cup 2011.
Connor will be required to put big efforts in the absence of their regular fly-half and mid-fielder. During his short career with Australia, he has played on number of positions including, fullback, wing, centre and fly-half and he could be given of those
roles in the up coming matches.
Berrick Barnes is the other player who will be lined up in the Wallabies starting XV as their coach pointed out after making the announcement of his team. However, the pair has yet not been given any specific positions.
Talking about his future role with the Wallabies, James O’Connor told the media that he is ready to play at any position his coach recommends. He added that, “Whether I play at 10 or 12 - it's wherever Robbie sees fit - I'm just looking forward to going
on this tour. Moving to the front line is something I'm keen on - whether it's at 10 controlling the game or at 12 outside Berrick. I haven't touched the ball as much as I'd like but I've been given a good opportunity on this tour to get a bit more involved
in the decision-making.”
He also stated that, “That's was one of my main goals at the start if the year. I didn't want them making easy gains and that meant making my tackles up front.”
O’Connor has played 27 tests for Australia since his debut in 2008.
