James O’Connor still unable to decide his future with Australian Rugby Union - Rugby News
Western Force’s James O’Connor has not made any commitments about his future with Australian Rugby Union. It has been several weeks now that the fly-half is being approached by various Australian Super Rugby derbies to hire his services but he is not making
any clear cut decision. His current contract with the Western Force will come to an end with the conclusion of the ongoing Super Rugby season.
O’Connor, who made his international rugby debut for Australia as a teenager in 2008, is one of the highly demanded players from the Wallabies squad. He was approached by Queensland Reds, ACT Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels to play for them in the next season
of Super Rugby. The star often remains in the headline of the media but seems to be fed up by the hype.
When he was asked today on June 8, about the latest development regarding his future planes, he refused to reveal the story. He said that, "I've got nothing for you. Hopefully there will be something organised pretty soon. As of yet it's still play on. No
call's been made today. Everything is being finalised. It hasn't gone through any of the franchises yet and I've still got the ARU to deal with but hopefully soon. I'm sleeping on a few different decisions I guess."
Later, he left an interesting message for journalists, who are desperate to break the news of his new signing. He wrote that journalists are chasing him everywhere but he has nothing for them at the moment.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Rebels and ACT Brumbies have confirmed that O’Connor has denied any possibility of signing with them. Brumbies chief executive, Andrew Fagan, told the media that O’Connor is not playing for them next season. However, Western Force is
confident of retainig his services for at least next season.
Force assistant coach, Nick Stiles, said that, “We're very confident. We've got a very strong program here. We feel we've got development tools in place for him. We've recruited strongly and retention's been great.”
James O’Connor is currently engaged in the Super Rugby championship with the Western Force and looking at playing in the play-offs.
