James Peters, Alan Roberts start convincingly on Day 1 of TridentUK RS200 National Championships
Hayling Island Sailing Club’s James Peters and Alan Roberts have taken an early lead in the standings of TridentUK RS200 National Championships on Day 1 at Weymouth and Portland National
Sailing Academy. Peters and Roberts had a convincing sail on Day 1, finishing the day at 19 points in both races of the day with an 11th and an eight position.
The weather conditions were too low to have a good sail on Day 1, as the forecast showed only a four-knot wind gusting over the racing area. However, the enormous 160-boat fleet set sail
for the scheduled two races as the breeze started to increase a little.
The first race started on time with the winds fluctuating in speed and direction at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Larg Sailing Club’s Robbie Burns and Vicki Simpson took
an early lead in the race and retained in until the end. Ian Martin and Chris Martin of Burghfield Sailing Club finished second while Peters and Roberts clinched 11th spot.
The wind picked up speed during the second race, which made it easier for sailors to set sail. Broadstairs’ Tim Ellis and Lucy Preston nudged the early leaders, Andy Peters and Jill Peters,
to win the race. Hayling Island Sailing Club’s Peters and Roberts could finish on eighth spot but their consistent sail brought them on top of the overall standings with 19 points.
The overall standings of RS200 National Championship at the end of Day 1 are given below:
