James Selvaraj confident for Lee Chong Wei’s good prospects at 2012 London Olympics
Malaysia’s James Selvaraj, who is the high performance director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), has complete faith in Lee Chong Wei’s abilities as he is confident that the shuttler will return home with a medal at the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
Selvaraj appreciated the determination shown by the World Number Two Chong Wei in the recovery process of his ankle injury that he received during the Thomas Cup Finals in May at Wuhan, China.
Chong Wei did not want to let his countless fans down as he showed a steely determination and commitment and surprised everyone by making impressive progress in his recovery process.
According to Selvaraj, the shuttler is ready to compete in Olympics as he is on the right track and has got back his fitness level.
The Malaysia’s top shuttler started to attend physical training session just after the three weeks of his injury. He is close to his best fitness level in all aspects and is ready to shine at Olympics.
Selvaraj said, “Physically, he has got himself back to where he was before the injury. All he needs now is a good measure of confidence to go with it. He was back on court sooner than expected. It speaks volumes of his sheer determination to do well. I’m
happy with the commitment shown by him and the others.”
While talking about Chong Wei’s main Chinese opponents in the mega event, Selvaraj said that he has the potential to overcome them.
He said, “China have won the first round of the psywar by having three qualifiers in the men’s singles. But I believe that Chen Long and Chen Jin are beatable and Chong Wei will return home with a medal.”
Chong Wei won the silver medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics when he lost the home favourite Lin Dan of China in the title match.
This time Chong Wei suffered with an injury at the crucial time just two months ahead of Olympics.
However, he showed a wonderful progress and is ready to compete in the tournament and many believe that he still has a chance to win Malaysia’s first ever gold medal at the mega event.
