James Shields sparks as Tampa Bay Rays prevail over the Chicago White Sox 2-1 – MLB Update
It was the day of Tampa Bay Rays’ starter James Shields as he pitched right through the nine innings and had nine strike-outs in the Rays 2-1 victory against the Chicago White Sox at Tropicana Field, Florida, on 19
April.
Shields did an outstanding job with pitching as he allowed just one run on four hits. It was the seventh win out of eight games for the Rays in this season. He beat John Danks by ending with nine inning pitches and allowed just one walk. Shields confirmed
the success for his team when he struck-out Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko.
James threw for nine innings for the sixth time in his career, as his first was against the Angles in 2008. He expressed his excitement and said, “I wanted it, that's for sure. Joe had some faith in me. I was cruising through the game. It's exciting. I got
the CG. It's been a long time.”
Joel Peralta and David Price were the two aces in the 5-0 win for the Rays on Monday. It was the second superb pitching performance done by Shields. The Rays took a lead when Sean Rodriguez posted a triple in the fifth inning.
The Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon was also happy with Shields’ previous performance and entered him into the roster, as it was the big game.
Speaking to reporters, Maddon said, “It's awesome. He was very confident the last three innings. It was really fun to watch. He kept his tempo. He kept his pace. The quality of the locations was severe. I could tell he was on right from jump street.”
On the other side, Danks allowed two runs on seven hits with two earned runs and had five strike-outs in seven inning pitches. Danks performed well, but not enough to steal a win. He did not permit a run in six at-bats and struck out B.J. Upton in the third
inning.
Dunn had a worth-seeing performance in the last games, as he gave just two hits on 27 at-bats. The White Sox had the worst record in the last 10 games as they have posted just 29 runs total.
The White Sox right-fielder Carlos Quentin struck a dominant double with A.J. Pierzynski in the fifth inning towards the centre-field position. During the seventh inning Quentin was struck-out by Shields with the support of the Rays’ catcher Kelly Shoppach.
The White Sox’ Manager Ozzie Guillen was quite disappointed from the batters and said, “It's a shame when you're wasting good pitching.”
Guillen further added that he will make some amendments in the roster for the next games of the current Major League Baseball season.
