James Sutherland clarifies comments about Pakistan Cricket Board - Cricket News
Chief Executive of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, James Sutherland, has taken the initiative and attempted to clarify comments made earlier about how the Pakistan Cricket Board could have avoided the spot-fixing saga.
According to reports, Sutherland contacted PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmad and cleared up the misunderstanding regarding statements he had given in an interview.
The move came after a complaint by PCB to cricket’s governing body, International Cricket Council, regarding comments made about the board. The ICC, however, seemed to have their hands tied in the matter and could do little to settle the situation between
Cricket Australia and PCB.
The tension between the two cricketing bodies arose after Sutherland criticised PCB of not following Judge Qayyum’s report on match fixing, which had been submitted almost a decade ago.
Sutherland had earlier commented on the issue and said, "In the context of what happened last year, I think it is really important to read his (Judge Qayyum's) full report but also his recommendations.”
His statement went on to suggest that the spot-fixing saga, which had Pakistan cricket embroiled in controversy and led to lengthy bans for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 and Muhammad Amir, was PCB’s own fault and accused the Board of not taking any solid action
based on the previous report.
It seemed the comments were aimed directly at PCB and its’ inadequacy at handling the volatile situation. Sutherland, in his earlier interview had said, “If you have a look at the recommendations, ask yourself whether Pakistan Cricket Board actually went
through and implemented all of those recommendations. Well, I can't say for sure but I would have big question marks about whether those things would have happened last year if those recommendations were fully implemented."
Sutherland went on to explain that the statement was an answer to a general question that had come up during an interview and was not aimed at PCB. He added that his reply had been taken out of context and manipulated.
PCB is yet to respond to the claim with a public statement, as the tension between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Board and Cricket Australia seems to have taken a step towards calming down.
