James Te-Huna beats Joey Beltran via unanimous decision on UFC on Fuel TV4 – UFC News
James Te-Huna, the former CFC Light heavyweight champion, proved supreme over his Wednesday night opponent Joey Beltran, grabbing a unanimous decision win in a three-round bout held on July 11, 2012.
The duo co-headlined the UFC on Fuel TV 4 fight card, which was televised live on Fuel TV. The main card was headlined by the non-title classic bout between Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman.
The event was held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, United States, putting forth the UFC fans an energetic and exciting night to remember.
Despite the fact that the Aussie Te Huna was a bit overshadowed by Joey’s experience, the former did not show any kind of intimidation, outshining the American in almost all the significant facets of the sport by his impressive skills.
James, 30, was entering his career’s 20th bout and was coming off a two-bout win streak. His opponent, Beltran, 30, was not an easy brawler to take lightly. Joey was entering his career’s 22nd bout, boasting 14 wins and 11 of them via knockout.
Although James held a better win ratio compared to Joey, both of them showed similar resilience throughout the fight.
Te Huna started things off with great authority, placing 71 significant strikes in just the first round. Even though the strikes were lethal, Joey did not lose his grip. James perfectly dominated the first round.
With the second round bell, again James moved in to set the pace of the bout. This time James rather shifted to a defensive-offensive style. Whenever Joey tried to move forward with a lethal strike, James attempted for a takedown.
During the third round, Te Huna took Joey down with just one minute remaining.
Breaking the grip to move over, Joey kept on pummeling Te Huna. However, with just 30 seconds left, there was nothing much he could do. At the end of the three-round battle, Te Huna emerged victorious with a score of 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
After the bout, James, admitting Joey has a hard head and body, stated, “He's very hard. I hit him with some very hard shots. I thought I was going to put him away. I hurt my hand and I hurt my foot in the very first round. But it was an entertaining fight.”
This was James’ 15th career win, whereas Joey has received his eighth career loss.
