James Traiforos pockets Men 200m IM gold: Day one – 2012 NSW Metropolitan Championships
James Traiforos of TRGR pocketed gold medal of the Long Course 200m Individual Medley (IM) playoff in Men 14-15 Year Olds age class on foremost day of the 2012 New South Wales (NSW) Metropolitan Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic
Centre on Saturday, March 3.
The Metropolitan meet played a vital role in the fostering of Australia’s national teenage talent as it allowed them to contend each other in their exclusive events.
The 15-year-old Traiforos faced tough battle from his challengers, Joachim Bardrum of AUBN and Matthew King of WILB in the first half, but with his persistent efforts, he overwhelmed his opponents in the second half.
The first lap of the event was dominated by Bardrum, who clocked an effort of 28.84 seconds. He was followed by King, who covered the same in 28.99 seconds while Traiforos emerged as the third fastest swimmer of the event with the timing of 29.26 seconds.
Traiforos elevated his pace in the second lap, where he surpassed his opponents and completed his initial 100 metres with an effort of 1 minute and 03.69 seconds. Similarly, Bardrum dropped to the second fastest spot of the event as he clocked 1 minute and
04.74 seconds while King submitted an effort of 1 minute and 05.02 seconds.
Subsequently, Traiforos continued his dominance in the second half and gave no chance to his swimmers to fight back. With his exceptional efforts, he gained a comfortable lead over his opponents and ended first by clocking 2 minutes and 11.64 seconds for
gold medal.
His effort was much faster from the record of 2 minutes and 14.72 seconds, owned by Jake Baggaley of NCAQ from 2010.
Bardrum sustained his position in the second half and secured second finest spot on the podium by posting 2 minutes and 16.46 seconds. He was followed by King, who remained 1.12 seconds behind his former finisher and touched the finishing end with an effort
of 2 minutes and 17.58 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all listed events while the podium finishers received accolades for their unmatchable efforts after the session.
