James Tredwell aims to impress during the Tests against Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676, is thrilled with his recall to England’s national Test squad, and aims to impress as the Poms fly to Sri Lanka for a series of two Test matches which begins on March 26, at the Galle International Stadium.
“I may be going just as cover, I'm not sure, but I'll certainly be going there to impress and get a game in my own right,” he said.
While he will be travelling as a reserve spinner, the 30-year-old is eager to step up and prove himself, should regulars Monty Panesar or http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 get injured.
Tredwell claimed that he had been driven to perform after Coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362 had called him up at the end of summer to explain that he was still part of England's plans.
The spin bowler’s inclusion in the squad came as a surprise. He made his Test debut in Dhaka against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in 2010, during which he took 6 for 181. His last match for the national team was the World Cup quarter-final against Sri Lanka in March 2011.
“This recall was a little bit of a surprise, I guess, having not been involved during the winter, but equally having played last year and done well in my second last game at the World Cup the belief was still there that I can do it at that level,” Tredwell
stated.
Other changes to the English squad include the dropping of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032, who has been replaced by all-rounder Samit Patel.
Tredwell will be part of an advanced group, including Steven Davies, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 early, on March 5, in order to take part in a training camp under the tutelage of Graham
Gooch.
After their two matches against Sri Lanka, which end on April 7, the English team has a slew of home Test matches lined up against the Windies and the South African unit - providing the likes of Tredwell an added incentive to prove their mettle and gain
a permanent reckoning in the national team.
