James Worthy thinks Miami Heat still stronger than the new-look Los Angeles Lakers – NBA News
After the Los Angeles Lakers were dominated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semi Finals last season, everyone was in agreement that the era of the Thunder was here and the Lakers did not have enough firepower
to stop the charging Thunder.
The Lakers took that to heart and got themselves some firepower in the offseason, adding Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to the team to make it one of the best teams on paper in the league, if not the best. As soon as the Lakers landed
Howard, fans knew they could easily take down the Thunder now, and the Lakers became the clear favourites to win the Western Conference next season.
But after that, the Lakers will have to play in the NBA Finals and with the way the Eastern Conference is looking at the moment, the Miami Heat will be their likely opponents.
Many believe that the Lakers still do not have enough to beat Miami. James Worthy is one of those people. A former Lakers legend and studio analyst for the team on their new network, Worthy believes that Miami has the advantage
over the new look Lakers.
“I would have to say Miami still has a little edge simply because they won last year. It will be so much easier for them to win again because they know how to do it. With them adding Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, they have tremendous
scorers and three-point shooters off the bench. Then they also have the greatest player in the game with LeBron James,” said Worthy while talking to the Los Angeles Times.
Worthy also had something to say about the Oklahoma City Thunder, and although he credited the Thunder for their improvement the past few seasons, he said the Lakers would manage to go past them after the addition of Howard and
Nash.
It is quite clear that the top three teams in the NBA for next season are Oklahoma City, the Lakers and the Heat. But from there on, it is anybody’s ball game. It is difficult to comment on their performance when not a single game
of the season has been played. The Heat and Lakers have added talent to the roster, but they still need to prove they can make it work on the floor. The Thunder also have to show they have learnt from their experiences from last season.
At this moment, it is anybody’s call.
