Jamey Wright likely to be re-signed by Seattle Mariners from free agency
The Seattle Mariners have made no move to re-sign four of their regular season players, who are now in free agency. The development comes on Sunday, October 30, as 150 players join the list of free agents in Major League Baseball.
Reliever Jamey Wright is joined by the likes of infielder Adam Kennedy, catcher Josh Bard and designated hitter Wily Mo Pena. The pack of players will await their faiths in the coming days as the club now has five days left to negotiate terms and conditions with the players.
Seattle signed all four players on Minor League deals. All of them are now part of the regular season roster. Wright happens to be the top pick of the team and he is expected to return to the club as he is considered an integral part of the bullpen roster. Coming out from a regular pitcher’s role, the star has been doing well for himself as a reliever.
Not only is the veteran involved in building the talent in the pen but he ended the 2011 season with an earning runs average of 3.16 from 68 1/3 innings of play. He pitched as a reliever, 60 times. That was the highest after Brandon League’s 65 game appearances.
"I feel like with each year I've thrown out of the bullpen, I'm getting better," Wright said. "I finished up strong, felt strong, felt healthy to go out and take the ball every day.
"I've got to figure I'm probably a valuable piece for somebody out there. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and get ready for Spring Training, no matter who it's with. I'd love it for to be here, but I know how it is. After the season is over and nobody is on the disabled list, it looks like we've got a whole bunch of guys."
The pitcher claims that when it comes down to the critical moment of the game, there is a need for players who are ready and patient on the field. Wright believes himself to be one of them. He concluded his comment on the issue by saying that both parties would have to see on how the situation develops in the next few days.
