Jamie Alguersuari eyeing Mark Webber’s empty seat at Red Bull for 2012 season – Formula 1 update
Toro Rosso’s driver, Jamie Alguersuari, has expressed his desire to drive the Red Bull car in 2012. He further expressed his thoughts on being the only driver behind Sebastian Vettel who will move from Toro Rosso to Red Bull.
On Monday, Red Bull extended the contract of their champion Driver, Sebastian Vettel, until 2014. They also hired Adrian Newey and 50 other team members until 2014 as well but they never said anything about the teams other driver, Mark Webber. Webber is
said to be retiring from the game at the end of the 2011 season, hence opening the window for another Toro Rosso driver to sneak in. On the other hand, as Red Bull never renewed Webber’s contract, he is not giving up on the hopes of Formula 1 driving season.
He has said recently, “Driving those red cars [Ferrari] has always held that romantic attraction.”
While Jamie Alguersuari has only one target this season and that is to perform well and take the empty seat left by Mark Webber. Jamie said, “Of course that's the first target. That is clear, very clear. Having a great car is the most important thing and
Red Bull's is the best.” While in Toro Rosso’s camp, there is another driver, Sebastien Buemi, who also wants to impress the Red Bull team this season by scoring some points.
Toro Rosso is regarded as one of the championship contenders this season by many drivers because they have impressed in the testing session. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren said that Toro Rosso is 'ridiculously fast' and Alonso also said that they will fill up
the space behind Ferrari and Red Bull.
Talking about the new car, STR6, Jamie said, “The truth is that it is going well, I think better than last year, but we still don't know the true potential. It seems fast, but we don't know exactly where we are until Australia.” He further said that Toro
Rosso is not good enough to take down Red Bull’s glory but Force India, Williams and Sauber will be the target.
Talking about his archrival for Red Bull’s seat, Sebastien Buemi, he said that Buemi is good and talented but not enough to claim the Red Bull driver seat.
