Jamie Anderson continues her Slopestyle domination at Burton European Open – Snowboarding News
America’s Jamie Anderson walked away with top honours from the 2012 Burton European Open after an outstanding performance in the Final that went down at LAAX, Switzerland, on Thursday, March 1.
Finland’s Enni Rukajärvi was forced to settle for runner-up place, whereas Switzerland’s Isabel Derungs finished third to complete the podium.
Anderson had been without any doubt the most dominant female rider at the latest edition of the Burton Global Open Series, topping the podium at both the Canadian as well as the New Zealand stop.
Heading into latest Final of Burton European Open on Friday, all eyes were on arguably the female Slopestyle specialist Anderson. She had already made her form quite evident during the Semi-finals on Wednesday and was expected to carry her excellent run
of form into battle for podium.
As expected, the show was completely stolen by the 21-year-old Californian. She landed a strong second run to post a 91.98 on the score-board. The score moved her into the lead and remained unbeaten until the end, consequently making her third run a victory
lap.
Rather than taking it easy in the third run, Anderson decided to step up her performance even further and landed a back-side tail-slide in the top rail section, followed by a front-side 360 to back-side 540 in the step-up/step-down rhythm section jumps at
the top of the course. She backed it up with a Cab 720 tail grab along with a switch back-side 540 indy grab on the big booters, before eventually capping off her run with a back-side lip-slide to front-side 360 out on a banked brick wall in the jib section.
The run in the victory lap improved her score to 93.58, earning her a comfortable victory and cementing her lead in the overall Burton Global Open Series standings as well as the Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour.
The Finnish rider Rukajärvi finished in second place despite a difference of over 10 points between her score and Anderson’s score, with her scoring an 81.80 off her third and best run. The run comprised of a switch back-side 540 to front-side 360 tail grab
combo in the rhythm section, followed by a back-side 540 and Cab 720 in the big jumps. She was about to attempt a Ca 900 to cap off her run but eventually decided against it.
The crowd-favourite Derungs managed to clinch the last remaining spot on the podium with an impressive third run that included a huge back-side melon grab and switch back-side 540 stale-fish grab.
The Canadian sensation Spencer O’Brien was clearly not in the best of forms and finished off the podium in fourth place.
