Jamie Anderson defends Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle throne at X Games Aspen 2013
America’s Jamie Anderson added yet another gold medal to her collection after claiming top honours in Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle final at the X Games Aspen 2013, which continued in Aspen, Colorado, on Saturday, January 26.
Czech Republic’s Sarka Pancochova walked away with the silver medal, while Canada’s Spencer O’Brien completed the podium to take home the bronze medal.
The crowd in attendance at the event site hardly had any doubt that they were about to witness a series of mesmerising performances by some of the best female riders from across the globe.
The 22-year-old Anderson, defending Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle champion, did not take too much time to prove to the crowd that they were not wrong to expect a heavy dose of adrenaline-pumping action during the final.
She stamped her authority over his competitors with a superb first run, which featured a big cab 720 among a handful of other impressive tricks.
The run earned a score of 93.00 from the judges, which kept Anderson in the lead until the end to seal the fate of the battle in her favour, enabling her to successful retain her throne.
"I just wanted to put down a solid run and do my best," she said about her first of three runs, which earned a score of 93 points -- enough to hold off the rest of the pack for the duration of the contest. "I'm just so thankful to be here. I'm really inspired
to learn more new tricks and have better style and enjoy the journey."
After the result of Saturday’s final, Anderson now has six Slopestyle gold medals to her name and by the way she is riding, it seems highly probable that the collection will grow even more in the years to come.
Pancochova was nothing short of impressive during the final either. After getting off to a somewhat lacklustre start and failing to complete her first two runs, the 22-year-old Czech Republican bounced back strongly in her third run to post a 90.00 on the
score-board.
O’Brien managed to find a place on the podium as well after earning an 88.66 off her third run.
