Jamie Anderson dominates women’s slopestyle final at 2012 Burton US Open – Snowboarding News
America’s Jamie Anderson walked away with top honours from women’s Slopestyle finals at the 6Star Burton US Open that continued at the Stratton Mountain in Vermont on Friday, March 9.
The coveted win landed her atop the Global Open Series along with making her 2011/12 Ticket to Ride (TTR) Slopestyle World Tour Champion.
The latest season of the TTR World Snowboard Tour had featured a handful of slopestyle events that were nothing short of spectacular in terms of thrilling snowboarding action. The top female riders from around the world were competing for one of the most
coveted honours in snowboarding.
The riders arrived at Stratton Mountain to compete at the 30th edition of the Burton US Open, the pinnacle event of the TTR series.
The 21-year-old Anderson had been exhibiting a formidable form throughout the season and was clearly the event favourite. She lived up to the expectations during the semi-finals on Thursday and comfortably made her way into the Final.
The Lake Tahoe-based rider found herself pitted against a strong competition in the Final, which included Norway’s Kjersti Buaas, Finland’s Enni Rukajärvi and Canada’s Spencer O’Brien.
Arguably the best snowboard slopestyle rider in the world, Anderson wasted no time in asserting her dominance over her rivals during the battle for top honours. She landed a solid first run to move into the lead with a score of 85.25. However, she stepped
up her riding even further in Run 2, landing a back-side lip-slide to fakie on the top rail section, a Cab 720 nose-grab and switch back-side mute grab in the jumps, a tail-slide to 270 out in the bottom jib section before capping it off with a 50-50 to backside
180 mute grab off the final cannon rail.
“It has been another great season and I am very stoked to pick up another TTR World Tour title. It’s my favourite discipline and I was happy to seal it off with a first place today,” said Anderson, who was evidently at a loss of words after collecting her
third TTR Champion title.
Prior to dominating the US stop of Burton Global Series, the American rider had topped the podium at Burton European Open, Burton Canadian Open and Burton New Zealand Open.
The Norwegian rider Buaas finished as first runner-up in Friday’s slopestyle Final at Burton US Open after scoring a 78.40 off her Run 2, which featured a 50-50 backside 36-, front-side 720, backside wall-ride and 50-50 to backside 180 off.
The 21-year-old Rukajärvi rounded out the podium after earning a 74.60 off her top run that comprised of a five-oh, backside 540 indy grab, Cab 540 and 50-50 to backside 180 off. The Finnish rider also took home the Creative Use of Space award presented
by Mini for the Cab 540 that she threw during her run.
“It was fun today,” Rukajärvi said after the Final. “I like to go big and the course was good ... Jamie has been riding so good all season and she always gets all the best tricks in her run. It’s really hard to do that. Kjersti as well, everyone's riding
so well.”
Canada’s O’Brien failed to complete any of her three runs cleanly and therefore finished in eighth place with a best-run score of 40.80 points.
