Jamie Barrett doubtful about his appearance in Asian PTC events – Snooker Update
During the proceedings of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn came to the venue and made some important announcements about the recent snooker calendar.
In those announcements, he told that the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has added some more events in the calendar. These new tournaments include three Asian events of the Players Tour Championship (PTC)
series. Almost all potters appreciated the addition of new events but there were some players who did not like this improvement.
England’s Jamie Barrett, a rookie who is struggling to get to the pro tour, is also one of those potters who is doubtful about his appearance in the Asian PTC events. The Englishman participated in the last year’s PTC competitions but was not able to perform
accordingly in those events. His best performance in the 2011-12 PTC was reaching the first round of PTC 1 and PTC 2.
While speaking to the local media, Barrett said, “I have already showed that last year in the PTC. I lost against Martin Gould and Matthew Stevens last year, but I probably should have beaten Matthew – and he did well in the World Championships.”
He added, “For me the PTC events are about going there and enjoying playing. Barry Hearn has moved some of the rounds to China this year and they will be difficult to get to. There is the option of going to Europe and places like Germany and Austria. That
might be something for me to consider along with the UK events.”
Barrett tried his luck in the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) but failed to qualify for the pro tour. He crashed out of the first Q School event after he lost to Paul Davison by the score line of 4-3 in the opening round.
He played brilliantly in the second event and reached the fourth round of the tournament. He was at the brink of winning the event as he went neck-to-neck with Ryan Causton dragging the match into the decisive frame where he lost to his compatriot. The third
event finished the same way as the first did and he lost to England’s Saqib Nasir by 4-0.
