Jamie Barrett likely to face Stephen Hendry in PTC Event 2 at South West Snooker Academy
Playing against the legendary former World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry, is a dream of every amateur player in world snooker. England’s Jamie Barrett is just two victories away from a potential
Stephen Hendry clash in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event Two, which will be held from Saturday, August 6 at South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
Barrett will participate in the second PTC event to chase his dream of becoming a professional snooker player at the South West Snooker Academy. The Clee Cons Club cueman is practising hard to achieve
his goal and hopes to perform well in the event. To go head-to-head against Hendry, Barrett has to win his two pre-qualifying round matches.
Should he successfully go through the pre-qualifiers, he will be facing the veteran in his first round match.
While speaking to the local reporters about his potential clash with Hendry, Barrett said, “Hendry is a legend and I would say he is probably the best to have ever picked up a cue. But if I were to
play him, I wouldn't be thinking about what he has achieved in the game, I will only think about myself.”
Barrett’s run in the first PTC event was not so convincing, as he successfully surged into the first round beating Robert Tickner and Lee Farebrother in his pre-qualifiers but unfortunately lost to
Martin Gould in Round One by the score line of 4-2.
He spoke about his experience in the first PTC event at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, “After the first event I am at 71 so I am in that top eight at the moment. I took Gould to the wire.
He practices eight to ten hours a day but I hold a job.I have gone there and competed with the very best so it shows I have got the game to go to the next level.”
He added, “People often tell me how good I am, but I don't like to blow my own trumpet and I like to take things a match at a time.”
The 27-year-old Barrett will play his first pre-qualifier against compatriot, Charlie Walters, which will be a best-of-seven frames match.
