Jamie Benn could be in for a treat when new Labour Deal comes into play -NHL Update
Jamie Benn is probably one of the few players, or the only one at the moment, who is looking forward to a new labour deal as some sources report that the 23-year-old left winger could be in for a major pay day if he does not sign on to a deal before a new
collective bargaining agreement comes into play.
There are many technical reasons that would be able to as why would Benn be looking at more cash from the Dallas Stars, but the overall summary is that the youngster would get much more in comparison to other teammates on the same level. One thing is for
sure, and that is the National Hockey League (NHL) does not want to honour previous deals that had teams cash strapped, a good sign for Benn indeed.
Here is what Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated had to say in  his article,
“Here's the twist: now that it's known that the league wants a CBA that won't honor the full value of previously signed deals, there's no reason for Benn to sign any time soon unless he's given an even higher AAV to protect him when escrow claws back 15-20
percent of every deal. Or he could threaten to hold out when play resumes, knowing that a team struggling to regain its footing in the Dallas market can't afford the negative optics of starting a delayed season with its franchise player on the sidelines.”
Drafted as the 129th overall player back in round-five of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Dallas Stars, Jamie Benn has definitely established himself as one of the best youngsters in the league at the moment. He had 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists)
to his name in 71 games played last season and certainly seems to be on the path to keep on getting better.
He is currently a restricted free agent after his three-year, entry-level deal worth $1.975 million came to an end and could be headed to another team post-CBA era, which would have more money to offer him.
The situation will continue getting more intense and will definitely be interesting to follow up with.
