Jamie Bestwick Foundation to host “Bike For Life” charity event
The legendary BMX rider, Jamie Bestwick is organising the inaugural “Bike For Life” charity event through his Bestwick Foundation on Sunday, August 28, at the Tussey Mountain in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, to help raise funds for cancer research organisations
in the region.
The proceeds from the event will be donated to organisations working for the benefit of cancer patients and their families in the State College area, such as the American Cancer Society and Penn State-Coaches vs. Cancer and Centre Volunteers in Medicine
(CVIM)
The charity bike ride is looking to attract the crowd by putting various activities on offer, which include two different mountain bike rides, a 62-mile road ride and a family fun ride. There will also be musical entertainment, food, Tussey Mountain Family
Fun centre amusements and a BMX halfpipe demonstration by professional riders.
Aside from the event organiser Bestwick, the event will also have many other celebrated BMX riders in attendance. The list includes Marty Nothstein, Dual Slalom Mountain Bike champion and member of the Nitro Circus crew Jim DeChamp, two-time North American
Trails champion Jeff Lenosky and free riding legend Aaron Chase.
The 40-year-old Bestwick, an eight-time X Games BMX Vert gold medallist, said that the cause is close to his heart, “I lost both sets of grandparents to cancer in England, and I've seen friends locally in State College suffering through cancer treatment.
My life has been strongly shaped by cancer and I've had enough. Through my foundation I aim to raise money for families receiving cancer treatment in the Centre Region.”
The Britain-native is not new to the cause and has been participating in several charity events to raise funds for lifesaving cancer research. However, he feels that the families of the people fighting cancer are often forced to choose between the bills
and care for their loved ones. While these families have often been overlooked in the past, Bestwick hopes to provide them the necessary support, both emotionally and financially.
The initiative taken by Bestwick will hopefully inspire other athletes to get involved in the charity events as well and contribute to the society that has given so much to them.
