Jamie Burnett crashes out of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open after losing to Marco Fu
Since its beginning, the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament has produced some outstanding snooker shows along with some easy wins for many potters who came to play at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria.
In a second round clash between the Hong Kong cueman Marco Fu and Scotland’s Jamie Burnett, the Chinese potter was able to claim the victory by an easy score line of 5-1 to trash Burnett out of the tournament.
Both potters performed impressively in the opening round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event and booked their berths in the second round clash. The match up was expected to be an interesting and thrilling game but the proceedings did not
go accordingly.
Fu was in tremendous form and produced some classy snooker display to unnerve his opponent by an easy score of 5-1. Burnett tried his best to counter the attacking game of Fu but failed to improvise and missed his chance to overcome the proceedings. The
Scottish player was not feeling good after losing to the Hong Kong potter because he had hopes that he can win over Fu.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Burnett said, “It was a bit of a struggle right from the start there. I didn't get much sleep last night so I wasn't looking forward to it.”
The Scot added, “I'm taking things one tournament at a time. We've got loads of tournaments now, which is fantastic, that's the season started and two last 16s in them isn't the worst start in the world, I've had couple of wins over the top players so I
know that if I play well enough I can beat them.”
Fu has now set up his quarter-final clash against the winner of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals, England’s Stephen Lee. The player is in tremendous shape and might trouble Fu but on the other hand, the Taipei cueman must be confident
after this victory.
It will be exciting to see Lee and Fu battle it out in the upcoming encounter as both players will be looking to put in a good performance and advance in the tournament.
