Jamie Burnett overpowers Jin Long to enter Round 1 of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
Wild Card round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China almost finished featuring new challengers who will take on the World Top 16 cuemen that are already placed in the televised stages of the tournament. The
tournament has got the status of a major ranking snooker tournament and is going to be a thrilling contest among the top guns of the game.
In one of the Wild Card round games, Scotland’s Jamie Burnett was up against the Chinese cueman, Jin Long. After some tussling snooker display at the arena, Burnett made his way into the first round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic beating his Chinese opponent by
the score line of 5-3. The first session of the game was totally in control of Burnett but he faced some resistance in the second session.
While speaking to the local media, Burnett said, “At the start I wasn't feeling too good. It was a bit of a journey to get here and I haven't really slept the last couple of nights either. Jin's been on the main tour and he's a good player but he didn't
play at his best in the match either. It was a tough game and I'm just glad to get it over with.”
He added, “The condition of the tables was really nice, it was really fast, but the cushions were a bit bouncy which was a bit frustrating for both players I think. You just need to get on with it, it was a struggle but I'm just glad to get through.”
The opening frame of the Wild Card game, which lasted for 54 minutes, finished in favour of the Chinese cueist and he nudged Burnett one frame down at 0-1. Tumbling one frame down was indeed a pressure situation for the Scotsman but he stayed focused on
his game. The Scottish potter bounced back strongly and cruised into three frame wins hitting tremendous knocks of 78 and 59 to snatch the lead by 3-1.
The young Chinese player showed great snooker skills in the second session and clinched two consecutive frames to pull level at 3-3. After that the Scot did not give any room to his opponent to get back into the game and claimed the victory by the score
line of 5-3 hitting two frame wins with the highest break of 62 in the seventh frame.
