Jamie Burnett sets up Neil Robertson clash in Round 1 of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
Scotland’s Jamie Burnett faced China’s Jin Long in the Wild Card round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China and was able to defeat him by the score line of 5-3 to book his place in the televised stage of the
tournament. The Scotsman will be facing the former World Snooker Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson in the opening round of the event.
Burnett was struggling after he lost the first frame to the Chinese player who finally triumphed over him after some tremendous game play. After tumbling 0-1 down, Burnett was under immense pressure but he patiently played in the next frames of the session
and finished on top with the score line of 3-1 after winning three consecutive frames with the highest breaks of 78 and 59.
The Chinese cueman clicked two more frames to equalise the scores at 3-3 which dragged the game into a tussling situation as both potters were giving their best to hit the lead first. However, Burnett was successful in dominating his opponent by the score
line of 5-3 after he claimed back-to-back frame wins. He is now looking forward to his match against the top dog of the game.
While speaking to the World Snooker, Burnett said, “It was a tough game as well. Jin's been on the main tour and he's a good player but he didn't play at his best in the match either. It was a tough game and I'm just glad to get it over with. You just need
to get on with it, it was a struggle but I'm just glad to get through.”
He added, “Neil is obviously one of the top players in the world. If I play like I did today I won't stand a chance at all.”
Burnett has not played against Robertson before so the match up will be an interesting encounter for both cuemen. Robertson is in good form and might be tough competition for Burnett. It will be exciting to see this tremendous match-up between Burnett and
Robertson as both players are highly competitive and extremely talented.
