Jamie Burnett trounces Neil Robertson in opening round of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
Snooker fans present at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China witnessed the first major upset of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event where the Scotsman Jamie Burnett was played tremendously against the former World Snooker Championship winner, Australia’s
Neil Robertson by the score line of 5-1 in the opening round. The Scot has made his way successfully into the second round of the event.
Robertson was the favourite potter in this match as he was in impressive form but things changed when Burnett came at the Wuxi baize against him. Burnett played stunningly against the Wild Card holder China’s Jin Long to set up Robertson clash were he totally
unsettled his Aussie opponent with his terrific snooker display.
While speaking to World Snooker after his victory against Robertson, Burnett said, “It's always a good feeling to beat a top player. I think the scoreline is flattering to say the least and I think it's 5-1 because Neil didn't play well, not because I played
well. It's not often that a top player struggles, but when they do you have to take advantage of it, you have to take your chances.”
He added, “I felt a bit better today than I did yesterday although I'm still struggling with the table.”
Burnett put the former World Snooker Championship winner under immense pressure when he nudged him one frame down after claiming the opening frame with the help of 40-point break. However, the Australian cueman sprang back with a beautiful knock of 54 points
in the second round to pull level at 1-1.
After that, the 2012 Masters snooker event winner failed to get back into the game and Burnett swept the table in the next four frames to earn his first victory in the 2012 Wuxi Classic. Burnett has now successfully breezed into the second round of the tournament
where he will meet the winner of the opening round clash between local hero Ding Junhui and England’s Mark Davis. It will be exciting to see how far Burnett can carry his winning momentum forward in the event as he looks to put in a top-class performance to
progress.
