Jamie Carragher agrees contract extension
Jamie Carragher has agreed a two year extension to his contract at Liverpool that will keep him at the club until 2013.
The 32-year-old Liverpool defender is now likely to end his career with the club and the vice captain will then consider his future.
Carragher said, “I think I would find it very hard not to have football in my life.”
The Liverpool defender is expected to enter into management as he currently undergoing a UEFA course to get his coaching badges.
The player will not have a clause in his new contract that will allow him to enter into a coaching role at Anfield, but the defender admitted that Liverpool would be a great place to coach at.
"Here would be great. But Liverpool always have top managers and you would have to earn your stripes," said Carragher.
The English international started his career at Anfield as a school boy and his career at Liverpool has seen the defender amass 641 appearances for the club.
This has put Carragher in sixth position in Liverpool’s list of all time appearances.
The Liverpool defender has won 10 titles including a Champions League, UEFA Cup, two FA Cups and two League Cups with the Anfield club.
Liverpool will consider Carragher’s new deal as positive news after a poor start to the season on and off the pitch.
The club have faced the prospect of administration so far this season and may face a lengthy legal battle with owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
Carragher is still unsure of what role he will undertake after his football career.
"If I go down that road I might be coaching or scouting. I don't know,” added the Liverpool player.
New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will be delighted that the veteran defender has decided to sign a contract extension. Hodgson had stated that keeping Carragher at the club was one of his main priorities.
