Experienced Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has rubbished the claims that the skipper Steven Gerrard’s career is coming to an end as the English midfielder has been struggling to recover from injuries for the past few months. The English defender has
asserted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s captain still has plenty to offer to the club.
Gerrard, who inspired his team to a historic win over AC Milan in 2005 UEFA Champions League final, has been out of action due to injuries for the past few seasons. His 2010/11 season ended as early as March due to a groin injury.
The 31-year-old underwent surgery for his groin problems and was ruled out until December 2011. However, Gerrard showed extraordinary recovery and was expected to return before the start of the ongoing 2011/12 Barclays Premier League.
The English international, however, conceded another knock and Liverpool confirmed the absence of their skipper until September 2011.
Gerrard’s extensive absence from first team action is increasing doubts over the midfielder’s future at both club and country. However, Carragher believes that his skipper still has the attributes and experience to play at the top level and has claimed the
club legend is one of the best players in the premier league.
The English defender told the reporters, "There's still plenty more to come from Steven Gerrard. He's one of the best, if not the best, player to play in the Premier League over the past decade."
Carragher believes that Liverpool will be rejuvenated with Gerrard’s return. The defender believes that the Reds’ captain has extraordinary influence on the team. The English defender believes Gerrard can easily play five more seasons.
"When Stevie is back playing it will be like we've just signed a great new player. He's still got four or five years ahead of him to play for Liverpool," Jamie Carragher concluded.
Steven Gerrard missed Liverpool’s opening fixture of the current premier league season against Sunderland and is also expected to miss out on upcoming clashes against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Bolton Wanderers.
