Jamie Carragher signs new Liverpool contract
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has signed a two year extension to his contract, tying him to the Anfield club until 2013.
The Reds vice-captain is sixth on Liverpool’s all time appearance list having played for the club 641 times since his debut in January 1997, winning the Champions League, Uefa Cup, two FA Cups and two League Cups with his hometown club.
Now in his 15th season with the Reds, Carragher enjoyed a testimonial match against Everton last month, and will take his place at the heart of the Liverpool defence for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Having retired from international football in 2007, Carragher was brought back into the England fold by Fabio Capello for the summer’s World Cup due to injuries, and played twice for his country in South Africa.
